PV array can be wired at higher voltage to charge lower voltage battery bank. Charging a 24 volt battery with a 48 volt PV array and reduce wire size and power loss, while increasing the distance possible from the PV array to battery.
The four-line 80 character, backlit LCD display on the Outback FM60 and FM80 shows the PV system's performance. It is also used for easy programming and monitoring of the system's operation. Terminals accept up to 4 gauge wire.
Outback MATE3 system controller, an optional accessory, connects to the FM80 as a remote control. MATE3 duplicates the built-in control panel that comes with the FM80. MATE3 can also program and remote control Outback inverters, from a location 300 feet distant. MATE3 includes network interface for data logging.
Unit has a built in 12 volt auxiliary output to turn on and off the battery vent fan and other loads.
Built in 128 day data logging is very useful for tracking what the battery bank and solar array has been doing each day.
This controller is very similar to the FM60 but has 80 amp output capacity.
