The Orion XS serves as a DC-DC battery charger or as a power supply, offering a wide input and output voltage range. This is especially significant in the case of vehicles with a smart alternator (charging voltage too low even when engine is running) or in the presence of extended cable lengths, as is often the case in boats and RVs, which leads to voltage drops. In such scenarios, precise and controlled charging is imperative to fully charge a service battery while still protecting the starter/input battery from discharge. Great for use in dual battery systems charged with an (intelligent) alternator. When the engine is off, the Orion XS isolates the service battery, so no power is drawn from the starter battery. With engine running detection, the charger only starts up when the engine is running. Lithium batteries can draw a lot of power, especially when empty. This can cause alternators to overheat. The Orion XS allows you to limit the input current to any value, matching the alternator's safe zone for perfect charging. Intelligent alternators (as found in Euro 5/6 engines) do not continuously provide a high enough voltage. The Orion XS boosts this lower voltage to the perfect charging level. Regardless of the variable input voltage, lower or higher, the charger maintains the chosen charging algorithm for perfect battery charging. The adjustable output current means the right charge current can be chosen for any service battery.
