The IOTA IQTurbo Smart Controller is an accessory for compatible IOTA DLS Series battery chargers sold by Backwoods Solar.
It upgrades a standard DLS charger from basic charging operation to a three-stage Bulk, Absorption, and Float charging profile.
If the batteries remain in the float stage for seven days, the IQTurbo can trigger a programmed equalization cycle. This helps reduce sulfation buildup on the battery plates and helps prevent electrolyte stratification during extended periods of limited battery use.
IOTA battery chargers used with a generator are often used to bulk-charge a battery bank from a low state of charge to nearly full.
The generator can then be shut down to reduce fuel use, while available solar charging finishes the charging cycle. This can be especially useful during winter when daylight hours are shorter and solar production is limited.
In other installations, such as systems with utility power available, the IOTA charger may be used to complete the full charging cycle. The IQTurbo adds the staged charging control needed for this type of operation.

When the IQTurbo is ordered at the same time as a compatible charger, the system can be configured appropriately.
If you are adding the IQTurbo to an existing IOTA charger, contact Backwoods Solar before installation to determine whether the charger voltage setpoints need to be adjusted. Incorrect voltage settings may overcharge and damage the battery bank.
