Aquatec 550 Series Booster Pump, 115 Volt AC Version 2

A medium-duty booster pump, the Aquatec 550 Series is appropriate for applications that include drawing water from a holding tank or shallow water source and pressurizing household plumbing, as well as moving water from one location over distance or uphill to another location.
A booster pump is intended to be placed near the water source, with a maximum draw on the intake side of 11 feet of lift. Derate by approximately 1 foot for every 1,000 feet above sea level.
Backwoods always recommends installing a foot valve on the intake pipe when drawing water up from a source to help keep the intake primed.
An optimum configuration would be to supply gravity-fed water from an elevated holding tank or cistern to the pump’s intake to pressurize the household pressure tank and plumbing.
This model includes a standard 5-chamber diaphragm pump head, permanent-magnet motor, quick-disconnect inlet/outlet ports, and built-in pressure switch with cut-in at approximately 45 PSI and shut-off at 60 PSI.
Now fortified to IP65 for increased resistance to moisture and dust. 1/2" barbed intake and outlet port fittings are included. These fittings are ideal for connecting flexible hose, which can help absorb pump vibration.

The built-in pressure switch is not adjustable. Backwoods also offers an external Square D pressure switch that can be used instead, allowing the pump to operate at lower, adjustable pressure settings for reduced power consumption.
The Aquatec 550 is a higher-volume booster pump capable of delivering 5.6 gallons per minute at no head/pressure. It has a maximum pressure capability of 70 PSI—the equivalent of approximately 161 feet of lift—with a delivery rate of 2.9 gallons per minute.
At approximately half power, the pump can run for extended periods of at least a couple of hours without significant heat concerns. However, operation at pressures above approximately 15 PSI should generally be limited to runs of about 20 minutes at a time to help prevent overheating.
This may be a consideration when using very large pressure tanks that require long fill times, but it can generally be avoided by using a medium-sized pressure tank that can be fully charged in 10 minutes or less.
Power draw is 0.89 amps at no head and up to 2.10 amps at 70 PSI.
Although newly fortified, the diaphragm pump head contains parts that will wear over time. Backwoods stocks the most commonly needed Lower Housing Assembly, which includes the diaphragm and “wobble” bearing, as well as the Valve Housing Assembly, which contains the valve manifold. This pump is field-serviceable.
Typical service life for these parts is approximately 2 to 5 years, depending on use and operating conditions. Reduced GPM output over time may indicate wear to the diaphragm and valves.
This pump is capable of running dry for short periods.
